The World of a Webmaster

A webmaster will know such fundamental skills of web design such as web marketing, web project management, web security, Javascript, Photoshop, PHP, CSS, and XHTML. Those determined to become a webmaster must learn server side scripting languages such as PHP, client side scripting such as Javascript, the mechanism for adding color, font, and spacing such as CSS otherwise known as Cascading Style Sheets, a graphics program such as Photoshop, and the workings of the Extensible Hypertext Markup Language or XHTML. These are the skills required to be able to operate, manage, design, and engineer a website. It is a multi-disciplinary field that takes years to master.

Websites are now a common fixture of the internet age. Through websites, one can operate an online business, post a resume and portfolio, express personal opinions and maintain journals or blogs, find stock market data, read the latest news, access services such as online banking, business registration and other services, even pay bills and do shopping. All this is possible with the help of knowledgeable people to make the necessary infrastructure online. Webmasters are the builders of this virtual world. They are the engineers, designers, architects, and managers.

The process of building and the job of a webmaster starts with domain name, then comes domain registration through a web host, designing and constructing the web site through the aforementioned tools and skills, maintaining the site, managing the content, regulating access rights of users, advertising, marketing, and fulfilling orders generated by the web site. Webmasters can function as server administrators, and configure web servers.
